Walking along the tree line was a great way to start the day and after all the up we did yesterday this bit of flat was more than a welcome change.
Trying to catch this little badass bird on picture was hard!
So pretty while fanning out his feathers and so quick to fly off again.

We woke up to absolutely amazing weather today.
If the hike yesterday was easy, today was tough. We started down on the flats this morning and in only a couple of hours we had gotten this far and we hadn't even done a quarter of what we were about to.
(I don't have a clue about the two random girls in the pic, they just happened to be there.)

This was my favourite part of the hike!
It's on the way down to Mackenzie huts.
It is the kind of forest where you think the stones are sleeping trolls, the trees can walk and if you follow that little path you'll end up infront of a hobbit hole.

We left the house at 07:45 to get on the bus that was going to take us to the start of Routeburn.
And as you can see we started our trip with rain. Luckily someone had thought of that and everything was packed into plastic bags and would stay safe and dry all day!
Thanks to the rain there were pretty waterfalls everywhere!
And the rain only lasted about 30 min and after that we walked in the sun...
We got to the hut earlier then I thought, it only took us a couple of hours to get there.
(What you don't know is that 30 minutes after this picture the rain was falling heavily again.)
